In a recent edition of our Friday Focus on YouTube, Dr. O El-Hillal discussed how to keep your teeth clean and white during orthodontic treatment. Here is a summary of his video.
Hi. My name is Dr. Ousama and I am going to answer the question: How do I keep my teeth white while wearing braces?
The easiest way to start this is: before you get your braces put on, be sure that you get a professional cleaning done by a hygienist or your dentist.
If you really want to have super white teeth as you go through your orthodontic treatment, the biggest thing to remember is that it all comes down to hygiene. The better and more often you brush your teeth as well as the use of a Waterpik or air flosser will help keep your teeth clean and white during your treatment.
People who are a little more particular about keeping their teeth white can use different products to help. The use of a teeth whitening system or even a whitening toothpaste while in treatment will definitely help give you those pearly whites – but again it always comes back to your hygiene.
The other thing you can do to keep your teeth clean and white during your orthodontic treatment is to increase the number of cleanings that you get while you are in braces. Normally, you get two cleanings per year. We have patients who increase their cleanings to three or four-month intervals to ensure they maintain optimal dental hygiene while in treatment.
Hopefully this answers your questions. If you have any other questions, please don’t hesitate to contact us.
