Most of our patients report that they feel very little (if any) pain during treatment with us. To ensure this is the case for you, there are a few things you can do to help make your treatment pleasant.
- Maintain Good Oral Hygiene – When you wear braces, it becomes more difficult to effectively clean your teeth. You need to take extra care when brushing and ensure that you also floss and rinse your mouth. We recommend you brush twice a day, floss once a day, and rinse your mouth daily as well. When brushing and flossing, ensure that you take care to brush and floss above and below the wire.
- Attend All Orthodontic Appointments – You can expect to attend an appointment at our office every 6 to 8 weeks. The appointments are extremely important to track your progress, provide feedback on your maintenance, and adjust your braces. Missing appointments will extend your time under treatment and could lead to an undesired outcome.
- Watch What You Eat – We all love something sweet every now and then. In principle, you can continue this indulgence while under orthodontic treatment. You should be careful though to avoid hard and sticky sweets as they could cause damage to your braces. If you do eat something hard or sticky, make sure that you take extra care in brushing, flossing, and rinsing on that day.
The most important thing to remember is that Orthodontic treatment is just temporary. Any changes you need to make during treatment will only be for a relatively short period of time. Attempt to do everything you can to make your treatment period as short as possible.
