In this edition of Friday Focus, Dr. O El-Hillal from E&S Orthodontics, your Phoenix Orthodontist, discusses what happens at a debond appointment (the appointment during which your braces are removed).
Welcome back to Friday Focus. My name is Dr. O and today we will talk about what happens when your braces are removed. In our office, we call removing braces a “debond”. Basically what this means is we are removing the actual brackets from your teeth to complete your active orthodontic treatment.
Whenever we schedule a debond appointment, it’s quite the celebration in our office. We have music, dancing and gifts for our patients. We complete the celebration by getting a photo showcasing your new wide, beautiful smile.
Generally, the debond appointment will last about 90 minutes and entails removing the brackets, checking your bite, getting impressions for your retainer and cleaning your teeth. We will discuss oral hygiene as well as the importance of your retainer and how to wear it to ensure that your teeth remain in the proper positions.
Let me also settle any fears that may exist regarding the removal of your braces. Debonding is a pain-free experience and the final step of active orthodontic treatment.
I hope you enjoyed this video and we will see you next week.
